Questions people ask before pasting
Is this really free?
Yes. No account, no limit on how many you download, no watermark. It costs us a little bandwidth and it saves you an afternoon; we think that trade is fine.
Which Loom videos can be downloaded?
Any recording shared with a link, which is what Loom calls "anyone with the link can view", including ones with a password: the page asks for it when the recording does. Private and workspace-only recordings cannot be fetched by anyone who is not signed in to that workspace, and that includes us.
If a recording of yours will not download, open it on Loom, change its sharing to anyone with the link, and try again.
What format do I get?
An MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, at the highest resolution the recording was published in, usually 1080p. It opens in QuickTime, VLC, Windows Media Player, Final Cut, Premiere, and everything else.
Does it include the transcript?
Not the free download; an MP4 has nowhere to put one. Importing into Slate does: every recording comes across with its title, its description and its transcript, and the transcript is searchable from the moment it lands.
Is anything stored?
The MP4 is built into a private bucket and handed to you through a link that works for an hour. Objects in that bucket expire on their own. We keep no record of who downloaded what.
Is this allowed by Loom?
The tool fetches only what Loom already serves to anyone who opens a public link, and it is meant for saving your own recordings and recordings that were shared with you. Do not use it on content you have no right to keep.
